Science and Research

 

The University of Security Management in Košice (USM Košice) since its establishment is participated into all kinds of scientific and research activity in areas of security and its connected scientific areas (economics, transport and logistics, environmental engineering, industrial influences, informatics etc) on a national and international level.

Several granted projects of a basic and applied research are solved at the university and in cooperation with other universities and academic or research institutes in Slovakia as well as abroad. These projects by their spectrum cover almost each area of security and protection of persons and property.

 

 

BASIC RESEARCH

 

1. International scientific projects

USM Košice participated or participates in several scientific granted and institutional projects in the frame of the research activities of some significant abroad and domestic scientific granted agencies and institutes (European Commission/COST –European Cooperation in the field of Scientific and Technical Research, APVV – Agency for support of Research and Development, SAAIC – Slovak Academic Association for International Cooperation, etc. From these projects are dominant following projects targeted the environment security, security in civil engineering, logistics, transport, criminalistics, criminology and forensic sciences:

· Understanding pre-industrial structures in rural and mining landscapes, landmarks. COST A27.

· New materials and systems for pre-stressed concrete structures. COST A534.

· Monitoring and geo-informatics system project as decision supporting tool for monitoring and anthropogenic impact assessment of the environment in Slovak Republic and Croatia. Project SAAIC.

· Theory of criminalistic tracks and identification and its application into process of substantiation of a criminal activity. Institutional project of the Karlovy Vary University.

· Identification of persons according to functional and dynamic signs. Project of the Department of Home Affairs of the Czech Republic.

· CORELOG – SWOT analysis of the  regional SCM strategy. Bilateral project.

· Cost-effective, sustainable and innovative upgrading methods for fire safety in existing tunnels. Project funded by the European Community under the ‘Competitive and Sustainable Growth’ Program.

 

2. Domestic scientific projects

Teachers of USM Košice are principal researchers or co-workers in some of some projects with a grant support VEGA – Scientific Grant Agency and KEGA – Cultural and Educational Grant Agency of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak Republic as well as of next research or academic institutions in Slovakia. From these projects a priority have following projects target the environment security, security in civil building, logistics, transport and innovation of study programme:

· Analytical and graphical modelling and testing of deformations of the rock-fill dam on the water basin Pod Bukovcom from geodetic terrestrial and satellite navigation measurements with output into GIS applications for the environment protection. Project VEGA.

· Effect of construction elements from non-metallic filamentary composites FRP in concrete and on-line and hybrid FRP-concrete constructions. Project VEGA.

· Integration of satellite navigation and geographical information systems into the study programme Security Management in the frame of the field of study 9.3.1 Protection of persons and property for the 1st and 2nd level of university education. Project KEGA.

 

 

APPLIED RESEARCH

 

In a field of the applied research USM Košice guaranties many projects in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Department of Home Affairs of the Slovak Republic and some significant firms and institutes and corporations in Košice region or in the East Slovak region respectively. The projects are focused on economic and environmental security, citizen' security, security in civil building, transport, logistics, innovation of working technologies, laboratories building, etc.

 

1. Internal projects:

· Study of competence in processes and systems.

· World macro-economic values and possible risks of a macro-economic security.

· Education for realization of improving of quality and production.

· Project of the integrated management systems of quality ISO 9001:2000 and the standard OHSAS 18001:1999 of a safety and protection of health at working process.

· Project of the integrated management system of quality according to ISO 9001:2000 and the environmental management according to ISO 14001:2004 and standard of a safety and protection of health at working process according to OHSAS 18001:1999.

· Protection of personal data in the firm GETRAG FORD Transmission Slovakia ltd.

· Protection of personal data in the city part Košice-Krásna.

· Protection of personal data for Generation plant Košice, j.-s.a.

· Security study of protection in the firm REGULA, j.-s.a. Košice.

· Prevention and reduction of children and youth criminality.

· Building the campus of a special physical training and conditional training of USM Košice in village Kysak cadastre.

· Laboratories of logistics and information systems.

· Pricing in competitive environment

 

2. Projects of a social development of the Ministry of Education of the Slovak republic:

· Improving labour of target groups by means of acquisition of innovate working technologies.

 

3. Scientific and research projects  of the Department of home Affairs of the Slovak Republic:

· Constructional adaptation of iron bridges for a high speed operation – submission to stagnate region development.

 

USM Košice prepared projects to consideration into calls of European Commission for the 7th frame projects of European Union and other calls of this commission. Following projects focussed on security in transport and power energetic and migration and asylum are in an accreditation stage:

· Crisis Conduct, Monitoring and Management through an Interconnected and Interoperable set of Tools that address Topic ICT-SEC-2007-1.0-03 Optimised situational awareness through intelligent surveillance of interconnected transport or energy infrastructures. 7.FP, European Commission.

· LMESC – Labour Migration Educational and Service Course. Thematic Programme of Cooperation with Third Countries in the Areas of Migration and Asylum, European Commission.
