The Institute of Humanitarian and Technological Sciences of the University of Security Management in Košice observes two basic functions: · The institute guarantees teaching in the selected study subjects of naturalistic and humanitarian and technological character. · The institute also guarantees activities of research and development type in the mentioned areas of its teaching process. Teaching covers a wide scale of the basic study subjects which prepare undergraduates for next study and practice. Emphases are focussed on Mathematics in the 1st study year. So undergraduates can obtain a good basic from Mathematics for next study subjects where mathematics is needed, for example: Statistics, Probability and others. The study subjects physics and electrical engineering have similar task in undergraduates' education. Sociology, Management communications and Ethics of security services are the study subjects which aim is to prepare undergraduates in using the basic rules and instruments in the above mentioned areas in practice. Then undergraduates can know to prevent to conflicts in interpersonal relationships and firms in practice. The institute also guarantees teaching in specific technical areas where undergraduates can obtain knowledge on creation and using technical documentation at some risk industrial situations. These specific problems are covered in the study subjects: Engineering drawing and Engineering geometry. Other study subjects as Material engineering, Civil building and mechanical engineering bases, Stress analyses and Elasticity and stronghold are for the purpose to obtain knowledge for undergraduates to be experts in security management. Last but not least undergraduates can obtain knowledge on foreign languages at the institute. Especially English but also other foreign languages are kept at the institute for teaching. The institute builds the laboratory for research in influence of new and composite materials with new elements on secure and responsible operation in various conditions for transport systems and buildings. From the point of view of security very important for transport systems and buildings are their nodal points which are bridges, tunnels, key nodal points of buildings and etc. Research will be oriented on experimental testing theoretical obtained knowledge in this laboratory. The institute trays to participate in a research and development in cooperation with organizations those activities are focused on security of people and property.
