Institute Management:
The USM Institute of Humanities and Technological Sciences fulfills two basic functions: it provides teaching in selected subjects of a humanities and technology nature and also provides research and development activities in the relevant field. Building laboratories that will directly connect activities in both named areas also fits between these two main tasks.

Teaching covers a wide range of basic subjects that prepare students for further study and for practice. In the first year, the emphasis is placed on mastering mathematics to such an extent that students receive an up-to-date foundation in mathematics, become familiar with various basic mathematical disciplines and acquire the skill of working with mathematical apparatus that they will use in their future work (for example, statistics, probability and many other ). There is a direct connection to the subjects of Physics, Managerial Statistics and Applied Mathematics, as well as to other subjects of the natural science foundation. Indirectly, the basic knowledge of mathematics is used in practically all subjects of study.

The task of the subjects Sociology, Managerial Communication and Ethics of Security Services is to prepare students in the above-mentioned fields to be able to use the basic rules and tools in the above-mentioned areas in order to be able to prevent conflicts, to be able to anticipate them or to solve specific situations that have already arisen, especially in areas of interpersonal relations inside or outside the organization. Last but not least, students have the opportunity to acquire good knowledge of foreign languages. The school currently places the main emphasis on the teaching of the English language, but is able to prepare lessons in other world languages as well, if requested by the students.

It is essential that our graduates know how to communicate in practice with specialists and experts in the technical field and are ready to solve situations with them and prevent the emergence of extraordinary situations. Students receive the basics of creating, using and archiving technical documentation in the subjects Basics of mechanical engineering and Imaging methods. For better communication with experts from the technical field, they also acquire basic knowledge from the subjects Statics and Elasticity and strength.

An important component of safety education is also the development of the physical readiness and competence of future workers in the field of safety, which has a positive effect on the development of the character and willpower of his personality. For this purpose, the school provides teaching of basic and special physical education within the Institute of Humanities and Technological Sciences. As part of basic physical education, it offers activities in athletics, swimming, sports games, aerobics, conditioning, the basics of mountain climbing and self-defense. Other activities include practical shooting training, organizing boating and skiing courses.

The employees of the Institute of Humanities and Technological Sciences actively participate in the creation of university scripts and publications to ensure quality teaching of students, and at the same time they are involved in research tasks of domestic and international research and development. In order to constantly improve the quality of teaching and develop inter-subject relationships, the teachers of the institute cooperate with the staff of other institutes at the University of Safety Management in Košice.
